Barnes Waterfront Railing Painting, July 21st 2012

A rather disappointing turnout for this event on a rare dry day, can probably be put down to a change in the date to avoid a clash with the Olympic cycling road race - apologies for any confusion. However, the clear weather was perfect for painting, and a worthwhile section of railings was transformed from scruffy brown into gleaming black in the space of three hours. The Environment Trust is not merely concerned with protecting the natural environment, but being city dwellers, clearly the quality of the built environment is also important to us. Thus, sprucing up this highly visible section of the River Thames waterfront with a lick of paint is also part of our work, and one that doesn't involve any mud. The complimentary comments received from passing locals certainly proves how much this work is appreciated.
Don't worry if you weren't able to join us on this occasion, there's still another 200 metres or so of railings left to paint. It's not surprising that comparisions were made with painting the Forth Bridge - although even this task was completed in December 2011.
