Hounslow Heath Restoration

The restoration of Hounslow Heath continues in association with Carillion Services and The Conservation Volunteers.
We'll be returning to the heath once a month to continue the process of restoration.

In places gorse and birch trees are invading the heath. 
Volunteers help to remove the gorse and invading trees. 
New areas of heath have been created after the high-nutrient top soil is stripped off. 
Where management has lapsed, heather dies when crowded out by other species.

Gloucester cross cows help to reduce the dominance of aggressive grasses. 
In amongst the heather, a delicate network of mosses creates thrives. 
Over the horizon is Heathrow airport. 
A corridor of heather is exposed after a day of gorse clearance.
